The Promised Update

Sorry that I didn't get this done last night but you all know how life is!

SO  I had a wonderful Christmas and I hope that all of you did as well.  Las week was a absolut whirlwind.  On Friday (Dec 18) We had our work Christmas Party.  It is amazing the things that people do when they have had a few too many drinks.

These are the two other ladies who are in my office.  They really are great I'm lucky to have such great co-workers.

See the beautiful necklace & earrings I have on?  Hubby made them!  He gave them to me as an early Christmas present because he wanted me to be able to wear them to the party.  Here are some more pictures of the jewelry.

As far as Christmas itself goes on the 23rd my neice and nephew & their mom met us at a Texas Roadhouse to eat our Christmas Dinner and exchange presents.  It seems that I did a good job of picking presents :)
On Christmas eve we went to hubbys Aunt and Uncles house for dinner with his family.  My mom joined us.  When we got home hubby drove us out to Elizabethtown and we looked at Christmas Lights.    When we got back we opened presents with my mom.
Look what Izzy got :)

She was hiding from my mom's dog pete and eating the snack bone thing that mom gave her.  She gave them each one but Pete completly scarfed his so Izzy hid in her princess tent :)
Christmas day Hubby and I drove to my grandparents and spend Christmas with my family.  We played bing and ate yummy food then we went to the park in my Grandma's town and looked at the Christmas lights there.
On Saturday we drove from IL to Indianapolis and stayed with some friends, and on Sunday we went to see the Colts game.  I am not going to discuss the stupid decision to take Payton Manning out with out a real lead. It'll just tick me off again.  So here are some pictures instead.

(These guys were sitting in front of us)

The game was a lot of fun.  There was some chick at the other end of our row throw beer on the guy sitting behind her.  Both of them seemed pretty drunk but I'm not sure what exactly happened.  She was escorted out by security.

In other news I received both of my blogger Christmas Exchange gifts.  Allison @ I heart Change sent me this beautiful Christmas ornament

I absolutely love it and so does hubby.  He thought it was really neat.
Meanwhile Kathi @ The Seasons of this Girls Life sent me a cute set of bath stuff.  There was a bath poof with a travel pouch that will come very handy if I get back in the habbit of the Gym (I've been twice in two weeks!) and some yummy scented bath gel and lip gloss.
Thank you both for the great gifts!
Now that you are all updated, I also posted what little of my reading list for 2010 posted on my blog.  Now I think I'll head off to the gym for the third time in two weeks (go me!) then  get the house cleaned up and get everything ready for New Years Eve :)

I'm alive, I promise

I hope that everyone had a merry christmas.  I'm sorry that I have been MIA but apparently having 2 weeks off of work makes it harder to blog since I'm not sitting in front of the computer all day.  I am however FINALLY caught up on everyones blogs and plan on sprucing up my blog this afternoon after running a few errands.
For now this is just to let everyone know that I am in fact alive and that I had a wonderful Christmas.  I will post the details of my super crazy week last week this afternoon.  Right now I'm off to the gym then to lunch with my mommy!

Merry Christmas

This is the closing video from the play we went to on Tuesday.  I tried to upload the actual play but apparently since it is 21 minutes instead of 20 it won't load :(

I knew I liked her...

I won something! I never win anything!

SHANON from Life as a (Future) Navy Wife!!!!!!
Congrats, Shanon! Email me your mailing address, and I will have the Snuggie in the mail to you tomorrow! Thanks to everyone for participating...it was a lot of fun!.

Thanks Bethany!  I'll get my address to you today!

Problem Solved...

So I changed a couple of settings for comments on the blog and it appears as tho it is working now. Awesome!

Last night hubby, DiverBoy's Wife and I went to see my friend lilshutterbug's kindergarteners Christmas play and it was adorable!  They based it on the story of the gingerbread man but it was the gingerbread kids!   Too Cute!!!!  I was going to post a video of it today but hubby had the cord to hook my camera up to the computer and I don't know where he put it.  SO tonight I will try to find it so that you can all enjoy the mass amounts of cuteness.

Friday is my company work party so hopefully I'll get at least one good picture of the new haircut for you all to see.  It really is a cute cut.

Comment problems...

So apparently people are having trouble commenting on my blog.  I recieved and email today from Allison at I heart change saying that she and Kathi were having trouble posting comments about the blogger gift exchange, and I know that my friend lilshutterbug couldn't comment when I started the blog, I don't know if she has tried since then or not...Does anyone know what the problem might be?  Has anyone else had trouble commenting?

Red Shirts on Friday

I recieved an invitation this morning to participate in "red shirt fridays" on facebook to support the troops.  It sounds like a very good idea to me and I am going to participate.  I have copied the reasoning from the facebook group below and linked it to this post in case anyone else would want to participate.

you do so we can live the way we do.

Red Fridays.

Very soon, you will see a great many people wearing Red every Friday. The reason? Americans who support our troops used to be called the "silent majority." We are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for God, country, and home in record breaking numbers. We are not organized, boisterous or overbearing.

Many Americans, like you, me and all our friends, simply want to recognize that the vast majority of America supports our troops. Our idea of showing solidarity and support for our troops with dignity and respect starts this Friday -- and continues each and every Friday until the troops all come home, sending a deafening message that every red-blooded American who supports our men and women a far, will wear something red.

By word of mouth, press, TV -- let's make the United States on every Friday a sea of red, much like a homecoming football game in the bleachers. If every one of us who loves this country will share this with acquaintances, coworkers, friends, and family, it will not be long before the USA is covered in RED and it will let our troops know the once "silent" majority is on their side more than ever, certainly more than the media lets on.

The first thing a soldier says when asked "What can we do to make things better for you?" is.. "We need your support and your prayers." Let's get the word out and lead with class and dignity, by example, and wear something red every Friday.

PLEASE, invite your friends from school, church, or anywhere! Get your communities involved and tell everyone you know.

This makes me sad...

I am by no means a mega-Christian.  I long realized/decided that religious preferences are a personal choice and while my friends all know my views, I also know theirs.  One of my best friends in high school was/is a practicing witch (as in wicca, not the B word...) and our friendship worked/works because we respect each others personal views and are open to hearing about one anothers religions so long as our own views are not slammed.

That being said this really pisses me off and makes me want to cry.  I was amazed at the progress China was making towards becoming more religously diverse and in one move they have taken about a million steps backwards.China cracks down on Christian churches  I would feel the same way if they were doing this to any other religions affiliation.  I am so glad that I am luck enough to live in a country that allows me to worship whomever I choose in whatever manner I wish.

hair cut

I had all of my hair chopped off last night.  It is now in a super cute chin legnth bob.  I also won the tickets I wanted to get hubby to the colts game for christmas!   I'm so excited.  He is going to love it!   I feel like a complet bitch though.  Diver Boy's wife texted me last night to come watch the season finale of glee and I completly thought that there was another week left and couldn't go :(  Hopefully we'll get to go get dinner one night last week.  Finals are over and I don't have any more week night plans between now and Christmas.  I was hoping to hang out with her Sunday but she is going to Chicago to see Diver Boy (who can blame her there?)  I think that they find out when/if he is going to Pensacola this week so keep your fingers crossed for them!  I'm sure she is going crazy being stuck in Louisville with nothing really to do during the day and him being so far away.

Pictures of the haircut will come soon, as in whenever I get around to taking them...

50 book challenge...

I almost forgot...barefoot angel is having a 50 book challenge for 2010.  It looks like there aren't a lot of rules just that you read 50 books.  I have at least 25 books on my bookshelf that I want to read so I'm going to start there and I'm sure by the time I finish there will be at least 25 more books appear or that I have stolen from my mom's bookshelf.  If you're interested I have the button on my blog so that you can check it out.  My reading list will replace my Christmas list starting December 26th.

I know not everyone is like me...

*Disclaimer, this post is devided into 3 parts--Part one is me whining about stupid people, Part two is me going on and on about the Colts, Part three is the most important.  Happy Pearl Harbor Day, feel free to skip ahead to part three if the first two bore you, my feelings will not be hurt.

BUT...I was browsing through blogs today and realized something. Poor grammar annoys me. I know that when I write it is not eloquent and that my spelling leaves much to be desired but at least I proof read my posts before I hit that silly little publish button...
When a TWenTYsoMeTHUN ChIcKaDEE TyPeS lIkes ThIS how in the world am I supposed to understand what she is saying? It is bad enough when I am on facebook and the teenagers from the church I grew up in who I used to babysit post statuses that say OMG My LiFe Is OvEr I WoNt SeE my BFF 4Eva in reference to Christmas break but seriously, you’re an adult stop with the teeny-bobber logo…Needless to say I won’t be following either of the blogs I’m talking about above…
Another thing I realized today is that I get really annoyed by blogs where people use multiple cutsey-wootsey nicknames for their significant other. I understand using DH or Hubby, or Sweetie, or even Baby to refer to your SO in order to protect their identity but I read one post in which the girl used 10 different cutsey nicknames for her SO in ONE PARAGRAPH…once again her blog, I won’t judge but I also will not be following…
I know I’m not perfect and I know that it is none of my business if I don’t like the way that these girls choose to communicate to the blogosphere then thank the internets I don’t have to read them, but seriously…every single one of these ladies was an adult. I have noticed lately that I must be getting old because I have become more and more easily annoyed by my 20 something friends who still think that they are in college or even worse, high school. That is probably why these three ladies annoyed me so much today. Well that and the fact that I read the three of them back to back—stupid Google reader for suggesting them!
Ok…off my high horse…

GO COLTS! Way to tie the record last night. The game was amazing yesterday. These things all happened yesterday!
— Matching New England’s record, set from 2006-08, with a chance to break it next week at home against Denver. Broncos coach Josh McDaniels was on Bill Belichick’s staff during the Patriots’ record run.
— Extending their own NFL record of consecutive 12-win seasons to seven.
— Remaining undefeated, the first time in league history two teams—New Orleans is also 12-0—have been unbeaten this late in the season.
— And tying the 1990s San Francisco 49ers for most wins in a decade (113), a mark they could also break against Denver.
— Chris Johnson ran for 100 yards in his seventh straight game, tying Earl Campbell’s franchise record, he finished with 113 yards and fell just short of a seventh straight 125-yard game, the Titans struggled in the red zone.
— Addai runs for a season-high 79 yards and two scores.
— Manning throws his 25th TD pass of the season, extending his NFL record to 12 straight seasons with 25 or more TD passes
Ummm yeah, so AMAZING game. Well played guys!
Now that I’m done raving about how amazing the Colts are I have to give it to Tennessee. There were two plays that if they would have gone slightly differently The Colts would have loss and I would have been very sad today. So, good job Tennessee, you played a good game, Indianapolis just played a little better.

Saving the most important thing about this post for last—Happy Pearl Harbor Day. I hope that everyone will take time today to remember the people who died at Pearl Harbor and all of the Men and Women who fought in WWII whether they were in Hawaii, Normandy, or here at home like Rosie the Riveter. Thank You.

Hubs update

Hubby went today to meet with his recruiter and see where we stand on the weight/measurements issue.  He is currently 2% body fat too high, this is less than 2 inchers around his waist.  So my house is going into insane unhealthy diet mode for the next two weeks in hopes of losing the 2 inches before the Navy entry processing people go on vacation until January.  It looks like everything should be turned in on time for him to officially enter the DEP and start MEPS January 3 (or is it 5, whichever) and given the way he has lost all the weight so far (did I mention that he ate an entire gallon of nacho cheese this month?) I don't think 2 inches is going to be a problem...

Moral Dilemma...

Ok, so maybe not a moral dilemma, but a dilemma none the less...

I am a Colts Fan...

I have been a Colts fan for 24 years now...(ok maybe not 24 years but since I was old enough to be a fan...)  Granted this is because they are in Indianapolis and I spent the first 9 years of my life near there but still...Colts fan.

As a Colts fan I do not like this guy or his team at all

Tonight these guys

Play these guys

This would not be a problem normally, however currently the Colts and the Saints are the only undefeated teams left in the NFL.  For this reason I would really like to see them be beat, however I am just simply not capable of cheering for New England...

GO HORSE!!!!

Wild Turkey = Yummy

As promised here is the Thanksgiving weekend post...

Thursday was spent at hubby's aunt and uncles with his extended family. Dinner consisted of both domistic and wild turkey's and it was yummy! I made a super easy appetizer consisting of sesame seed breadsticks wrapped in bacon and baked (bacon--yummy!) and a warm pumpkin dip that was delicious.

After things started to wrap up at hubby's uncles (about the 4th quarter of the last football game) We headed back to Louisville and played with the puppy for a while and I started wrapping Christmas presents to take inventory of what we already have purchased and made a list of where we might find the best black Friday deals and who we still needed to buy gifts for.

Then we headed for MIDNIGHT BINGO!!!! (yes we are crazy...) It was so much fun. Midnight Bingo is so classy and white trash, if you have never been you must try it at least once, I've only been 2 or 3 times but it was a good way to stay awake and it let out at 3am, giving us just enought time to go home, eat a snack and head out for the crazy black friday deals. We mainly went to laugh at the idoits who were out shopping hard core but we did hit a few good deals. Around 9ish we got tired of shopping and headed to Cracker Barrel then went to the U of L game...I slept through the first half...and the hubs fell asleep once or twice too...we were a bit exhausted. Thank God that Kragthrope is gone...he isn't necessarily a bad coach, I think that on a college level the fact that the players liked him is EXTREAMLY important because at that point his job is as much to teach as it is to win, but if we're going to be opening up a bunch of new seats in the stadium next year we need a coach who can put butts in the seats. The game Friday about 1/2 the stadium looked empty to me, I'm not sure what the final count was though.

After the game we hit McDonalds for the glasses that they were giving away then (and for lunch) then headed home and slept for a couple of hours. We woke up around 8 and put up the Christmas Tree and played with the puppy then it was back to bed until about 10:00 Saturday morning.

Saturday we went to our churches Oyster dinner. I had a hot dog (I don't like oysters) and a super delicous slice of strawberry rubarb pie (I like food can you tell?) Then hubby and I went to walmart and returned our last 2 wedding presents.
Saturday night we decorated the tree and had a chill evening at home complete with leftovers for dinner :)

Yesterday was extreamly uneventful. Hubby wasn't feeling good so he slept most of the day and I wrote a paper. After I finished my paper I decided to start on the diaper cake I am making for a friends baby shower (they are so much fun and so easy! If anyone ever needs a baby shower gift I highly reccommend them!) but I was out of rubber bands so I needed to run to the store. When we left Kmart hubby turned away from our house and wouldn't tell me where we were going. I have the best husband in the world, he decided to surprise me with SUSHI for dinner. I heart sushi!!!!

All in all a great holiday weekend. Now just 3 more weeks of work and then Christmas Vacation!!!!!!!!

ummm...yeah so cheating is probably a bad idea...

I saw this today and am more than a bit concerned...

Navy says 13 on Truman cheated, were disciplined

Six months after catching more than a dozen sailors cheating on a written examination, Navy officials disclosed the incident that occurred aboard the aircraft carrier Harry S. Truman.

It was the second time in less than a year that the nuclear department of a Norfolk-based carrier came under scrutiny for ethical lapses.

Giveaway I want to win..

I love this type of makeup...I so want this!  http://www.thebraggingmommy.com/2009/11/southern-magnolia-minerals-cosmetics.html  The bragging Mommy is giving away a Mommy Makeover kit...ok so I'm not a mommy but I could totally use a makeover kit!

The MIL...

My mother in law is an idoit...no really...I love her to death but sometimes she is just plain stupid...
Before you say to me "Nuclear Wife, be nice she is the woman who spent X hours in labor and 9 months carrying your husband.  She raised him as a single mom into the amazing man you love..."  Hear me out and I'm pretty sure that as far as doing stupid stuff goes this one is about a step below the idoits who get Darwin awards...

A bit of background--My MIL is a diabetic and has a strange heart problem that is rather common but only in patients with other heart problems...It's her only symptom...She was told some 15 years ago do XYZ or else you will be a very sick person...she did nothing.  about 10 years ago the doctors said ok do XYZ & A or you are going to end up as a very sick diabetic.  Eventually somewhere within the last 10 or so years she lost a lot of weight however she still hasn't done any of the other things the doctors told her to do and she doesn't eat the way she should or keep her sugar checked...needless to say today her diabetes is a bit out of hand.  This leads us to the idoiticy (thats right folks, ignoring the doctors isn't it!)

Thursday around 4:30 my hubby got a call from his sister that their mother was at the ER and she was busy asking if we could go over to the hospital and meet the MIL.  He said that we had some plans but we would head over after (we needed to return some wedding presents and had dinner plans with some friends)  MIL going to the hospital is old hat by now and as long as its the same story there was no reason for anyone to rush to the hospital.  One of us just needed to go to get her purse/car keys/clothes the stuff that they don't want you leaving in your room in the ER.  Well about the time we got to dinner (around 730ish) hubby's phone rings again.  Apparently his mother had been sitting in her car not wanting to go into the hospital and was now so sick she couldn't get out of the car to walk inside.  She also refused to honk her horn or anything to get attention because that would be embarassing (yeah cause sitting in the car in the ER PARKING LOT for three hours until you start to go into sugar shock isn't embarassing!)  and hubby's sister had called hospital security to go find her...Which was hard for them to do since she was laying down and wouldn't do anything to draw attention to herself.  SIL finally convinced MIL to turn on her flashers and security found her car and got her inside.  By now SIL was done with what she had to do so she went on to the hospital and hubby and I waited until Friday to head over there.  The best part about the story...it looks like MIL has about a 50/50 shot at being out of the hospital in time to eat turkey, if she had gone in when she first got to the ER chances are she would have been out yesterday....ummmm yeah, idoit...

I understand not wanting to admit your sick and not wanting to go to the doctor, but not going in when you're already in the parking lot because you know that you are sick and need to go to the dr....??? I don't get it.

(PS MIL is recovering fine her sugar problem just postponed some of the tests that they wanted to run so they won't be able to do them until today/tomorrow and the results take at least 24 hours)

Christmas Ornament Swap

The Mrs. at Trying Our Best is hosting a Christmas Ornament Exchange.  GO THERE and sign up!  It sounds like so much fun :)

Housing Question...

DiverBoy's wife (who needs an alias other than DB's wife...I need to talk to her abou that...)  has been looking for housing in Pensacola.  He is there now and she will be following next month for the remainder of his A-school and some addtional training.  The problem is he could be there for as little as 3 months (or indefinetly) from my understanding...Do any of you have any suggestions for where she should look for Navy-friendly housing?  Websites etc. or anyone who has been stationed there have any suggestions on good apartment complexes?

Thanks!

You will notice over the next few days some constant changes in the layout of my blog.  I have figured out what I want to do and how to do it however I don't really have the time necessary to do it all at once.  SOOOOOOO My goal is to have my new layout up and running by next Monday.  Bare with me until then and Monday (or when I announce it is done whichever comes first) let me know what you think about my bloggy-design awesomeness!  :)

I plan to post about Chicago after class complete with pictures so stay tuned :)

Graduation--The readers digest version....actually make that the abbreviated rd version...

Diverboy’s graduation from boot camp was yesterday. It was a very nice ceremony and all of the men in his division looked very handsome. No I’m not being sexist and neither is the navy…he was in an 800 division which apparently means Seals, Swimmers like him and other such people all of whom either cannot be female or very seldom are, therefore his division was all male J Pictures and such will follow but I am currently at my grandparents house visiting and just wanted to give everyone a quick update. Pictures will follow J

Oh and on a side note…I dropped my phone in the toilet after graduation…so no I have an IPhone that doesn’t like to work…luckily for me Diverboy’s wife had brought his phone so that he could check his messages etc while on liberty…SO now I have DB’s phone for the drive home…I’m lucky to have such great friends but then again I did drive 5 hours for his graduation so I guess giving up the phone a day early is the least he could do J

My first vacation as a married woman, without my husband!

Diver Boy graduates basic training tomorrow.  Sadly, Hubs can't get off of work so I'm driving to Chi-town by myself tonight with the puppy.  Izzy is very excited for the road trip.  After graduation etc. I"m going to go spend Saturday and Sunday with my grandparents who live about 2 hours south of Chicago.  It's going to be an exciting weekend.  We bought a new digital camera yesterday so I'm sure I will be taking LOTS of pictures!!!

Fed Up...

I picked my current template/layout because it was cute and was something to get me through when I started this blog until I had time to find something I like better...I'm over the current one so I'm trying to figure out what I want.  Any suggestions?????????

my baby...

I found makemebabies.com come today...this site might just get me in trouble...according to wedding pictures this is what our kids will look like...I'm not so sure about the little girls hair though, neither of us nor any of our family members have hair that dark...

Somethings in the air....

and it isn't Love...

First Fort Hood now this???  What are we comming to?

BREAKING NEWS: Several people reportedly injured in shooting at Orlando, Fla., high-rise

I'll take the good with the bad

First the bad to get it out of my system:
I was absolutly shocked to see the news about Fort Hood. We need to keep not only the injured and their families in our prayers but the entire community. This cannot possibly be an easy time for any of them. I hear all of the military wives talk about how worried they are when their husbands are deployed and how happy they are when they are home and safe. It is unsettling to think that we aren't always safe at home.

And the good.
Date night last night was great. Since it was a mystery shop I can't say where we went but I will be going back. I had ribs, hubby had prime rib. The steak melted in your mouth, literally no chewing required. It was amazing. Our check was over $100 to give you the idea of the level restaurant it was. I'll fill out a 30 minute survey for a $100 meal any time! After dinner we talked about going to see a move but opted out to go to bed early and I feel much better rested today! Yay for fun date night.

Yes I am alive!!!!

I would like to apologize to the two people who actually read this thing for my prolonged absence...I'ave had a couple of very crazy weeks...

Last week was month end at work which always means extra work for me...however some intelligent person at our corporate office (and by intelligent I mean compleate dumbass!) decided to schedule all of the parks "we have great ideas on how to improve next year even tho you won't let us implement any of them even the ones that won't cost any money" meeting on Thursday...Thus taking away an entire day of my time that was needed for month close...I enjoy the meeting because it gives me a chance to catch up with my coworkers who are so crazy busy when the park is open all summer that I never see them, but I really would have rather it been this week, or next week...next week would have been much better since this week was as crazy if not worse than last...

For Halloween the hubs and I went to French Lick and stayed at the resort.  They had a Halloween Murder Mystery Dinner Theater that was part of our package...If we had paid the $40 each to see the show we would have been very disappointed but since the package was only about $10 more than a regular night in the same room it wasn't a bad deal.  The weekend was great and we had some much needed us time.  We went swimming and lazed in the hot tub then went to the casino for a while where hubs found a new favorite game.  He says that the video poker there is set up in a way that makes it highly unlikely that the casino would have any reason to cheat he normally won't play video poker since you are playing against the casino thus giving the reason to rig the computers but at French Lick you are playing against other people at your tabel and there is one "dealer" (employee watching the game?) for four tabels but the casino has no hand in the actual game.

Back to the murder mystery.  "Dinner" was heavy hour 'devours at best.  It looked like they opened up Real Simple Magazine and Martha Stewart Living for October and just made every recipe in the magizines...it was cute and good but not what you would expect when they are marketing "dinner".  Especially since they normally have a meat and potatoes type buffett at their dinner theaters.  To top things off they had sold out of tickets but had extra room so someone decided to add more tables to the room so that they could sell more tickets...but they forgot to tell the kitchen manager about this so there wasn't enough food...OOPS! :)

The play itself wasn't bad but the who done it portion was a complete guess.  There weren't really any clues that would point to the guilty party...normally I wouldn't necessarily know tho the murder was but after it was revealed I would say "oh that makes sense...not this time!

Over all a great weekend but a totally crappy theater experience.   The breakfast buffett is to die for tho!  It was delicious!

Sunday we went with Diver Boy's wife to Comedy Caravan and watched Steve Hofstetters improv show (anyone who likes Steve check out the CD from last years improve show in Louisville..."Lobster Girl" is Diver Boy's wife) :)  It feels good just to sit with friends and laugh...I love Comedy Caravan...we need to go more often.

Monday was a pretty normal day but I was so exhausted by the time I got home from class (thanks Daylight Savings...no extra hour of sleep for me I just stayed up later!) but we had no food in the house so Hubs and I went to Kroger.  I took my handy dandy coupon book with me and hubby went on a scavenger hunt trying to only buy items that were both on sale and we had a coupon for.  I had to veto a couple of his choices (if we won't use/eat it why are we buying it?) and over rule him when he didn't want me to buy anything that didn't fit both categories (sorry but we were out of eggs and the milk was going to expire on Tuesday...)  when we checked out and the total went from $250 to $120 he officially decided that going grocery shopping with coupons is more fun that watching football (as long as the Colts aren't playing) and that he wants me to make sure he can come every time I go on my "big" shopping trips.  It was fun but after I went home and made him put away the groceries, I was exhausted and went straight to bed.

Tuesday was good.  I had a lot of homework to do and a long day at work but it all went ok.  I didn't get to eat lunch until 3 (I had class at 4 and normally leave at 3 on those days) and barely made it to class on time.  then we went to dinner with my mom and went home to do homework.

Yesterday we were doing inventory at theme park world and the outside company we hired can't count.  they had over an 11% error rate so we kicked them out and we are going to have to do inventory again later when they learn how to count...Needless to say I ate my lunch in my car on my way to class last night, and my homework wasn't done...

Tonight is date night.  I have a mystery shop with a $150 spending limit...I love free date nights! :)  especially when they involve yummy food at expensive resturants I normally would be afraide to walk to close to for fear that they would take all of the money I have in my checking account for just walking in the door! :)

Finally Today:
Remember, remember, the Fifth of November, The Gunpowder Treason and Plot. I know of no reason why the Gunpowder Treason should ever be forgot...

New Bed and Clean Room!!!

Hubs and I had a very productive weekend!
Saturday we went to Huber's and bought cheese and had pumpking ice cream.  We decided to pass on the wine this trip, its a good excuse to go back!  After Huber's we went to eat at a local seafood house and had yummy fish for lunch.  After lunch we decided to piddle around Southern Indiana because we wanted to go watch Toy Story & Toy Story 2 in 3D which was awesome!  But the theater in Souther Indiana has free refills on cokes and popcorn as well as serving Coke products which I prefer whereas the ones in Louisville are all cheap asses and serve pepsi (yuck!)
SO--after lunch we went to Big Lots and wondered around then we went to a mattress store next door just to look around and figure out how much we need to save before New Years since we had decided to get a new mattress for Christmas.  We decided to go ahead and get the mattress we fell in love with since it was on sale and it was delivered this morning at 9 am :)  Izzy is confused though because we agreed to a no more puppy in the bed rule...lets see how long this lasts...so she cant even go in the bedroom now...

Sunday we cleaned the guest room and now all of our wedding presents are sorted and put away.  I need to go to Target and JC Penny's to return dupicates and we are going to start on the Thank Yous this week hopefully I'll be able to get them all out by mid-November.  I had all of the ones for presents we recieved before the wedding in the mail before we left for San Antonio so I"m feeling kind of guilty that these aren't out yet!

Last night I decided to make myself a vanilla steamer and spilled the milk on my hand now there is a blister on my ring finger so I'm having to wear my wedding band on the right hand... Reason number 86789464084604 not to soder rings together...I wouldn't be able to fit the full set on my right hand since it's a little bigger than my left and if the blister keeps going down I can wear one of my bands on the Left hand by the end of the day hopefully but I know I wouldn't be able to wear the full set b/c it would go over the blister.

Random Rambelings

Yesterday hubby recieved a letter from our friend (we shall call him Diver) who made pretty much the same decision at the same time as hubby and I.  Diver and his "wife" decided to have a civil wedding and not tell their families so that she would qualify as a wife for Navy purposes the same time Hubby and I decided we were really going to do this.  Diver is a fun guy.  He was in our wedding and his wife was my day of stress out person so that people would leave me alone.  Diver has joined the navy for a job that you must be absolutly nuts to do, he wants to jump out of perfectly good helicopters into the ocean...see Diver :)  Anyway it was great to hear from him and he had some great tips for hubby when he goes off to basic.  He graduates next month so hubs and I are planning a road trip up to Chicago to watch him.  Just one delimia...What should I wear??? :)

On an unrelated note:  Today was our open enrollment meeting for insurance at Theme Park World.  I guess I need to have hubby go see his recruiter this week to figure out a better time line for stuff so that we can decide what to do about insurance.  I can't not have it but I don't know if it is worth it to spend the extra $100+ per month to keep him on there when he never gets sick and when neither of us will need it for at least 7 months out of the year...Guess I'll just keep pondering and take the paperwork home tonight...

Back to the coal mines...

My First Award :)

I apologize for going MIA for the past week.  Unfortunatly, those stupid allergies from the great Ohio River Valley decided to take hold in my chest and refused to give up with out a fight.  They quickly turned into a killer cold that then turned into a 103degree fever and Bronchitis on Sunday.  So after 3 days on antibiotics I'm back to work and should be back to 100% by the end of the week.

That being said I have done nothing but sleep and watch tv for the last three days and am terribly behind on keeping up with everyone elses blogs and that silly nusiance called work.  But I wanted to let everyone know that I am alive and (almost) well and did not in fact turn into a pig.  (For the record if you can avoid having a flu test do so by all means!  It is horrible they stick this Qtip thing up your nose and try to take brain scrapings I swear!)

On a lighter note special thanks to Bethany at Army Wife in Training for awarding me the "one lovely blog award"  seeing it was a bit of sunshine to my day!  Bethany's blog is a very fun read and it sounds like she has some great wedding plans in the making.  I wish you and your officer the best!

Stupid Ohio River Valley...

And stupid allergies...last night I should have spen the night all warm and cozy snuggled up next to hubby, but nope the Ohio River had other plans for me.  After getting out of bed 5 times to blow my nose I finally gave up and my pillow and I moved to the couch for the night :(  I think I'm running on probably about 3 hours of sleep, I'm betting the writing assignment for class tonight (which I haven't started yet but plan to do on my lunch break) is going to be epic!

On the happy side of things my beautiful photobook I ordered of wedding pictures came in yesterday and it is nicer than I expected.  The layouts look great and the quality is much higher than expected!  Yay for wedding pictures in a format easy to show people! :)

Navy Update

Hubby just left the recruiters office, body fat %age should be where it needs to be by the end of the month.  We're actually ahead of schedule.   Approximently 15 pounds to go.

New Floors

This is amazing so I have to share.

I want hardwood floors. I need a new kitchen floor and the carpet in my living room is ruined b/c my ex-roommates evil dog decided it was the potty. I bought new flooring for the kitchen and have started tearing up the floors that are in there so that I can lay the new laminate...I also went Sunday and bought the laminate boards similar to these

Sunday night I was pulling the floor in the kitchen up and took up the little bar that connects the vinyl kitchen floor to the carpet in the living room...There is hardwood under my carpet! So yesterday I returned the laminate I bought and when I am off work for Christmas we are going to pull up the carpet in the living room and bedrooms and refinish my BEAUTIFUL hardwood floors (ok, so they probably aren't beautiful yet, but they will be after we refinish them!) I’m hoping to have the new tile down in the kitchen by Saturday but I'm pretty sure it will be next week.

1 weekend down, 1 to go

Assuming hubby survives tonight/tomorrow we are half way through the hell of him working both 3rd shift and 1st shift.  He suprisingly came home this morning between shifts and rested on the couch until I got up so I made eggs and bacon for breakfast to give him a relativly healthy high protin energy rich start to his day.  He is hoping to get off this afternoon early enough to get at least 4 or 5 hours of sleep before going to his 3rd shift job then it's 1st only until Friday, 3rd all weekend then he will be mine every weekend from now until he goes off to Navy world :)

We are planning a trip over halloween, maybe we'll go here for their murder mystery weekend.  It sounds like fun to me!

Count your blessings

When it came to saving money on our wedding I was truly blessed. My mom was kind enough to pay for it (I'm her only child so that wasn't really a surprise) however my father passed away on September 11, 2008.

So for a little less than a year she had been paying off medical bills (he was very sick) and taking care of funeral expenses and settling the estate all while adjusting to a very much reduced household income.

My mother is one of the most amazing resourceful women in the world. Whenever I needed money to go on a trip or buy a uniform for dance team or go to summer camp she did her best to figure out a way to pay for it. Only once did she ask for help and that was for a hellexpensive trip I took to Washing DC my senior year of high school, after going to New Orleans, Governors’ Scholars, and DC the summer before and when planning to go to NYC on spring break for my Senior trip...Needless to say I never went without even though she did.

Somehow as she always does my mom asked me how much a wedding cost (I guessed that we could do it for around $8,000 if we cut out non-essentials) and she simply said OK no questions asked.

We were actually able to do the wedding for closer to $6,000 because of the joy I get in finding a good deal :) of course this is a problem since I also can't turn down a good deal and have therefore accumulated a lot of junk over the past 6.5 years that I have been out on my own (including college)

Some of the ways we got lucky in planning the wedding included:

My dress came off of the clearance rack (the alterations were as much as the dress) $500 total though!

I was a music minor in college so I have a lot of friends who are very talented musicians. One of my closest college friends normally charges $500-$800 to play organ at weddings if they are not at the church where he is on staff (then he has to charge their rate) plus since my wedding was about an hour out of town he would have normally asked for an extra $20 for travel reimbursement. My total rate after the extra I threw in since he gave me such a good deal? $300

I made my own veil...it was surprisingly easy and I couldn't find one I liked at any of the bridal stores in town. They were all either the wrong length or too fancy for my dress. Total cost (including the waste of money pattern that I didn't even use) $30

We got married in the church where hubby was raised. They just ask for donations so Mom made a donation to the church for the rental space. Plus my minister was my dad’s best friend, and actually complained that my mom paid him at all after making two trips to the church for the wedding plus a trip into our town to meet with me and hubby and buying us dinner! (Total driving time was probably somewhere around 7 1/2 hours over the course of 2 weeks)

My dad had a 1976 Cadillac Convertible that is in AMAZING condition. We used it for our get-away-car (I INSISTED on it but probably had more fun driving it around all weekend since I had to leave my car at my moms when I went to pick it up than we did on the actual wedding day) The car led to a lot of great photo ops too!

Probably the biggest cost savings was the most unexpected. We had our reception in a BEAUTIFUL historic old school building that is currently being renovated into a community center. We expected to pay a discounted rate since it isn't completed but the owner let us use it for free! (which is my FAVORITE price tag) :)

As you can see my photos were beautiful and very well done. My photographer was another friend from college who is just starting his own free lance work. He did everything for a flat rate then gave me a few disks with EVERY picture he shot and signed a waiver for the rights so that I can go print them whenever and wherever I want to.

The amazing luck I had with my photographer is the point of this post. I just ordered my wedding pictures from a web site I have ordered from before. It isn't a "professional" level site but their results are still really good and great for snapshots and such. Their quality is higher than Wal-Mart or Meijer but lower than you would get from a portrait studio. I'm getting one of those fancy photo-books (not the hardcover coffee table one but one of the simpler ones) a 4X6 of every picture that I want for my scrapbook, some small pictures for our mom's, a couple of 5X7s and 5 college prints for our moms, his sister, my grandmother, and us and after shipping and everything it was just over $50. I was floored at how cheap it all was. The 4X6s alone would have been at least that much at Wal-Mart or Meijer.

Now just to figure out what pictures I want to order from the professional level site that my photographer recommended to me for our fancy frames we received as presents!

I really just ment to brag about how cheap the pictures I just ordered were...I would appologize for the legnth/wordyness of this entry...but if you didn't want to know you didn't have to read it.... :)I totally didn't plan on this being a entry about the wedding being cheap!

PCS Updates

Wow I can't believe it's been almost 3 months! SO much has happened and I honestly feel like I've barely had a chance to breath...
